President Jinendra called meeting to order. After National Anthem he welcomed members and the awardees of Vocational excellence. He then handed over the meeting to R’Ann Dr. Asha Naik to conduct the meeting which she did immaculately.
Vocational Awards evening is a special evening when we felicitate those non-Rotarians from the society who give their best for the society without any expectations of recognition for what they do. We as Rotarians appreciate their efforts to serve society and felicitate them so that it can become an inspiration for others. This year we chose following personalities.
Dr. Amol Waghmare who did his PHD in Marathi literature and has been working tirelessly for Adivasis and adult literacy particularly for women so that they can get a voice in their family and society. Trained few adivasi women to make Nachani laddus and sell them so they can earn their livelihood. He immediately donated Rs.5000/- that we gave him as a prize, for building of school for tribal children.
Mr. Vivek Bodhankar for his outstanding work in water conservation and river rejuvenation. He is the Chief Convener, Jalbiradari Maharashtra engaged in rejuvenation of rivers Bhima and Agrani and co-convener, ‘Samagra Krishna Khore Kutumb’ for Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and AP.
Dr. Parikshit Gogate for his dedicated work for the underprivileged and the needy as an optholmologist and has been carrying out this social activity at different institutes such as Poona Blind Men’s association and H.V. Desai eye hospital.
Ms Preeti Damle has been heading the NGO Samavedana since 2009 that has been working in three areas of health care – Prevention, Treatment and Healthcare Education. The organization has provided financial aid to over 1400 persons to date, screened over 18000 individuals, and have educated 10500 school children in Health Care.
After the felicitations, R’Ann Dr. Asha Naik proposed vote of thanks and the meeting was adjourned.
