At the beginning of the Rotary Year, RCPC decided to launch Community Service Projects with focus on SUSTAINABILITY & IMPACT. Sustainability starts with a community. After surveying rural areas surrounding Pune; RCPC decided to focus on 7 villages in Mulshi Taluka. This community is well defined as 7 villages, 33 schools & 1000 women and the mission is to transform lives of focus community beneficiaries. Extensive need mapping was done for the community along with club volunteers to finalize the scope of the project with a clear focus on sustainability & impact. It was also decided that all avenues of community service namely - non-medical, medical & youth shall work in focus community. Women Health Care is part of this umbrella project. The women in these communities come from underprivileged section of the society. These women often neglect health and are usually the last priority in the family for medical attention. The villages lack basic minimum facilities & infrastructure for health care. The Women Health Care project is divided into two parts - Health Awareness & Health Check Ups. In this project sustainability aspects are in built into the project scope.The IMPACT ASSESSMENT format is created and data is collected as per plan. A RCC (Rotary Community Corps) has been set up in Mulshi Taluka to support local involvement and it's already active in focus community. Health Awareness Camps: Innovative programs titled "Health Minister", packed with entertainment, were conducted for women in the focus community with the help of local volunteers to impart basic awareness of female health. The objective was to motivate them to undergo Health Check Up in camps organized in immediate succession. Health Check up Camps: These camps conducted checks on the women for Hemoglobin test, blood sugar, cancer screening - oral, breast & cervical. Nine camps each were conducted in seven villages under Focus Communities. Corrective & Preventive Actions: For normal ailments next steps were prescribed. Any women having any possibility of cancer was referred for further investigation and full treatment including chemotherapy and surgery. Three breast cancer surgeries were conducted free of cost. Extensive mapping of beneficiaries was done for the purpose of tracking. RCPC plans to track these beneficiaries for three years to monitor and improve their health.
