Though a lot of work is being done in terms of raising awareness of people about protection of the environment and conservation of eco systems, very little attention has been paid to conservation of the Marine Environment and its continuous wanton degradation by dumping anything and everything into the waters, be it ponds, lakes, rivers or the Sea. The Indian Maritime Foundation (IMF), a Pune based NGO has been doing pioneering work in this field, in coordination with Ocean Conservancy, a Washington based organization, This year RCPC tied up with IMF and carried out Coastal and River Clean up at regular intervals at Mumbai, Pune and also in parts of Northern India. School and College Students actually carried out the Clean up supervised and guided by their Teachers and Rotarians and IMF Members. This ensured that not only were the beaches and river banks cleaned up regularly, but the awareness level was greatly raised amongst the youngsters.
