The ladies’ night, organised by R'Anns and Inner Wheel club of Pune Central, was eagerly awaited, as it promised us a gala time - a night full of music, dance and food. This excitement set the city temperature soaring and rain god came along with electrifying thunders and soothing showers. IWC got none other than the IITians themselves to play for us. The band “Y Point Orchestra” founded by Ajay Bhagwat and IIT Bombay alumni was started as an amateur band a few years back. But now no one could tell the difference between it and a professional band. At the end of their performance, people were left awed and wondered if this was their alternate profession. As the evening progressed, the IITian bunch realised they need to re organise their instruments to rather cramped and covered space. But this switch did not do anything to dampen the mood. As soon as the music played, a lot of us hit the floor. Alcohol and rain added dazzle and fun to performance. The band with their scintillating performance proved to us that age is just a number and you can follow your passion including start a band at 55 as well. Kudos to young musicians and singers from IITs. Ajay Bhagwat also spent time in walking the assembled gathering through their band's journey . All in all, this turned out to be a fun night that ended on a sweet note with yummy mango ice cream from Sukhi. We look forward to more such evenings in the coming future. ***************************** It was meant to be a Baisakhi day retro Bollywood musical extravaganza on a moonlit evening on Poona Club’s terrace, to celebrate the customary ‘Ladies Night’ for RCPC every year. R'Ann Asha Naik, IWC’s ebullient President and her team had toiled very hard to make it a really memorable evening – in attendance was the Y Point Orchestra, an accomplished musical band formed by the alumni of IIT Mumbai in 2005 with 3 percussionists, a lead and a base guitarist, two keyboard players, a saxophonist and professional singers, who unmindful of the last minute relocation of their musical instruments into a slightly cramped covered area on the terrace and a heavier than slight drizzle, enthralled the audience with the golden oldies of Bollywood, with both vocal and instrumental renditions. Our inimitable host and fellowship Chairperson, Sukhi Kalra was seen busy and making sure the snacks and tikkis were in abundance and served piping hot along with some delectable chaat and golgappas. R A’nn Sweety specially arranged rose flavoured milk for all guests. Sukhi had also organized for drinks also to be on the house and many Rotarians and R’ Anns made the most of the evening to dance merrily away, completely ignoring the drizzle which kept getting more intense as the evening progressed. The evening and all the fun and frolic was unfortunately cut short by increasing wind and rain, leaving both the Y Point Orchestra and the organisers with no choice but to foreclose, with the audience wanting more. Last minute efforts made by the first gentleman of IWC, our very own Rotarian Shekhar Naik, to relocate to the Club’s lounge could not work out. Finally, the rain stopped, but it was too late to start again. The dinner was followed by delicious dollops of mango ice-cream. Everyone who attended left with a feeling that the program ought to be repeated in friendlier external conditions.
