As we pushed open the old wooden door of the same old conference room of the Poona Club, a warmth of festivity greeted us. The whole place was colourfully decorated for the Navaratri celebration. Chairs were pushed to the sides to make space for a lovely Dandiya floor at the centre. As members started walking in, most of them dressed in traditional kurta, stage was all set for popular music, choreographed Dandiya and of course - lots of fun. President Ravi quickly went through the meeting proceedings and then handed over the floor to R’Ann Alka Srivastava, R’Ann Teena Goyal, R’Ann Seema Handa and R’Ann Monica Nadkarni. The programme started with a devotional song by Rtn. Dr. Saroj Bande and then quickly gathered momentum, the music became faster with members matching the beats with their tapping feet. There was indeed some stellar dance performance, though the one by Rtn Yogesh Shah and R’Ann Hina Shah would be remembered for a long time. It was no surprise that the couple got the award for the best dance performance of the evening. As the music and Dandiya stopped at 8 pm, the snacks counter opened up! It was time for fellowship. Almost one hundred members participated and thoroughly enjoyed the evening of festivity. As the evening was coming to a close, several cheerful members were heard asking the simple question – ‘why cannot we have more of these event based fellowships’!
