Amdocs and RCPC jointly conducted Robotics workshop for 40 students at Sane Guruji Vidyalaya in Hadapsar. The workshop started soon after their final exams got over, and it was held from the 15th April till 18th April. Amdocs CSR fully sponsored this 4-day event by hiring the trainers from Canara Engineering college near Mangalore and also provided delicious intraday meals to all. The main theme of this workshop was to promote creative thinking abilities of the pupils by introducing them to Robotics. On the first day of the event, 8 teams were formed and various controller modules were handed out to them. The children were then trained on functioning of various module and then how to assemble them. These modules included the main controller module, a small motorized vehicle, some buzzers and light indicators. Thereafter, the students were introduced to the software (DK Studio, a graphical user interface) which would allow creativity flow in order to build various tasks and then upload the commands to the main controller unit. On the second day, the children were introduced to IF-THEN-ELSE logic, and then using it to achieve simple results. On the third day of the workshop, the children were trained on taking multilevel tasks and breaking them down into smaller logical stages, isolating each stage and then transferring knowledge from one stage to another, eventually accomplishing the desired output. On the final day, a few friends of the trainers who live abroad in USA and UK did video calling and participated with the children by identifying the problems and coming up with possible solutions and then implementing the solutions with the help of Robotics. Overall, I found this workshop of great value, because not only it expanded the learning horizon of 40 students, but it also taught them how to work in a team, and enjoy the work they were doing. In my opinion, it was a great success and many such workshops can be held in the future at various schools.
