Background : During RY 2018-19, three rural schools located in Vadu Budruk area near Pune were identified jointly by Rotary Club of Pune Central along with the CSR donor company – ZF Steering Gear (India) Ltd. As part of our long-term strategic plan, it was decided at that time to focus our attention and efforts in upgrading the classroom, learning and sanitation infrastructures in these schools progressively over three to three years. Our goal is to bring the infrastructure and facilities in these schools to a level equal to 75%~80% of the level prevailing in urban schools. Accordingly, our interventions were spread out in a phased manner based on the quantum of funds available each year. The first intervention took place in RY 2018 – 19 vide GG1989018. In these phases, improvements were undertaken in the infrastructure pertaining to Classrooms, Learning, and Sanitation. The second intervention is now planned for which a fresh need assessment exercise was conducted at each school. The current project envisages supporting 2 primary and 1 secondary schools in Vadu Budruk area. About 1,000 students & 50 teachers will benefit directly in each academic year. In this phase, we are increasing facilities such as Benches, Green boards, Computers Labs, library cupboards, e-learning kits, Open Gym, etc. Students of these schools are from under-privileged sections of the local community. The project also envisages providing pedagogic training and a new program "Teach with Technology" to all teachers. The specific needs of each school have been identified through field visits jointly carried out by Rotarians of the host club and officials of the donor company. The corporate donor and host club have jointly prepared the list and specification of the items to be purchased, have identified and finalized the vendors. The International Sponsor Club is expected to visit the schools to help in monitoring.
