At KEM Hospital Pune, more than 5,000 OPD patients are treated annually in neurosurgery and neurology wards. Of these, more than 1,500 are emergency cases. The Hospital has three state-of-the-art ICUs, one PICU and one NICU which collectively help to manage neurosurgical cases properly resulting in good outcomes. The neurosurgery setup is equipped with Zeiss Microscope, German make Endoscope, Integra CUSA, Medtronic Drill, and other instruments. What is missing is a modern Neuro-navigation system that enables the surgeons to carry out complex surgeries through precise navigation thereby minimizing collateral damage to surrounding tissues. The Neuro-navigation system can be used standalone or integrated with the above-mentioned equipment. This system will enable the introduction of complex surgical procedures like neuro-navigation guided frameless stereotactic biopsy or aspiration of blood clot. This equipment increases the precision of neurosurgery in cases like Brain tumour, abscess, haemorrhagic stroke (Brain Haemorrhage), epilepsy surgeries, intraventricular bleed etc. It is also very helpful in Paediatric neurosurgery cases and for spine surgery. It increases the precision and prevents collateral injury to important brain tissue where each cell matters. It helps in navigating lesions and finding residual lesions. This equipment is recommended in all modern neurosurgery facilities.
