The first-ever Rotary Boxing Night — Rotary KO-CHD (Knock out Congenital Heart Disease) — on December 11, 2022, turned out to be a smash hit. KO-CHD is the Rotary Club of Pune Central’s new initiative to raise funds for undertaking corrective surgeries for children suffering from congenital heart disease. With the twin goal of raising awareness of CHD and raising funds to facilitate treatment for a present-day waiting list of over 3,000 CHD-afflicted children, RCPC combined forces with the Indian Boxing Council to hold their first Professional Boxing Championships in Pune. Held on the spacious grounds of MIT World Peace University in Loni Kalbhor, RCPC’s Pune Fight Night featured seven boxing bouts in various weight categories, concluding with Chandni Mehra from Haryana winning the National Women’s Title, and Sabari J from Tamil Nadu bagging the National Men’s Title. Professor Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, Founder-President of MIT World Peace University, Pune, World Peace Centre, Alandi, and Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research’s MIT and UNESCO Chair, was the Chief Guest of the evening. The event was attended by District Governor Rtn. Anil Parmar, First Lady Rtn. Hema Parmar, RCPC members, fitness trainer Zareen Siddique, representatives from major corporate houses and from the field of sports, defence, and education, alongside more than 300 boxing enthusiasts. The bouts were also live-streamed on WBC Live TV (Boxing OTT) and YouTube and watched by nearly 50,000 viewers across India and other parts of world. Pune Fight Night received expansive coverage in the media as well as on social media. This fundraiser for CHD was one of the largest and most successful events staged by RCPC. A lot of the credit goes to Rtn. Brig. PK Muralidharan Raja, President, Indian Boxing Council, and President Nominee of RCPC, who organised the event, and was ably supported by RCPC members, including President Uday Dharmadhikari, Rtn. Lekha Nair, Rtn. Vipen Malhotra, Rtn. PP Sanjiv Kumar, Rtn. Sameer Desai, RCPC office staff, and members of the Indian Boxing Council, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the event was truly a knockout.
