Objective To enhance living conditions in Antulay Nagar, a colony housing 1600 leprosy survivors, by providing access to clean water through the cleaning and restoration of a contaminated well. Project Description: Antulay Nagar, home to around 1500 leprosy survivors in Kondhwa, faces severe neglect from the Pune Municipal Corporation. In response to media reports highlighting the dire circumstances, the Happy Village Committee, led by Rtns Giri Sakhrani and Oni Kakajiwala, intervened. They initiated the cleaning of a polluted well, employing pumps to de-water and excavate it, resulting in the emergence of clean, usable water. Safety measures, such as covering the well with a metallic grill, were implemented to prevent accidents and maintain water quality, significantly improving residents' access to clean water. Impact: The project's success in restoring clean water supply has had a profound impact on Antulay Nagar's residents. With reliable access to clean water, their health, hygiene, and overall well-being have improved, alleviating the challenges posed by irregular and contaminated water supply. Conclusion: The project underscores the transformative potential of community-driven initiatives in addressing socio-economic challenges. By addressing water scarcity and contamination, it has taken a significant step towards realizing the vision of a "Happy Village". Ongoing efforts will focus on repairing septic tanks and further enhancing living conditions, affirming the commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth.
